Guys I totally forgot to add this to the post! This was a script one reader (thanks, Annie!!) kindly sent over that she used to hire someone. Wanted to share in case it's helpful:

Hey X,

I know I already asked you in the past about babysitting- but, I am also looking to hire someone to work for us 1-2 times a week for 2-3 hour time slots for $18/hour. Essentially, the job would be coming over to my house taking on the title of “house helper” by knocking out "to do’s".

These would be things like laundry, dishes, tidying, mild cleaning (we have a cleaner who comes every couple of weeks so no toilets, bathtubs, etc…..maximum would be cleaning the kitchen. Honestly, that wouldn’t be top priority unless other things were not needed), and just general tasks. I could be pretty flexible on time (obviously not coming over when they are home on breaks, etc) as long as I knew this person was reliably coming over week to week. It would be during hours that we are out of the house (8-3 and a few evening slots). So, it's a job that could be easily done while listening to a podcast or a book or some music, watching a show depending on the task,…etc.

Anyway, if this is something you (or even anyone you know…sorority sisters, etc) would be interested in, connect them to me? It would be pretty easy money that doesn’t require a massive time commitment but is reliably coming in. They would need to have a car. We live close to campus (as you know) so it would be an easy job to knock out between classes even potentially. We would commit to a two month trial run with likelihood of continuing if it's going well for both parties! ZERO pressure if you’d rather not pass along. No expectations! Just putting it out there for people 😊

You can pass my info along and anyone interested can reach out to me! **Name, email, cell number**

Thanks,

Your Name

I think budgeting for support and help, and getting creative is a wonderful thing and can be a worthy use of money. I'm having a 5th grader come over this week to hang with my toddler so I can declutter the basement. I also know that I've frequently not been in a season to sustain that financially or make it a regular thing.

I wanted to share other creative ways if this feels like something you need, but not accessible financially (whether because there's truly no funds or you want to direct discretionary income elsewhere). And I'm a part-time working mom of 1-3 young kids in each of these scenarios, and most of the women I'm talking about are also.

**In a particularly tough season, a friend and I traded chores. She did some laundry (her superpower, my weakness!) for me each week and I made her a huge dinner (my superpower! her weakness). Played to each of our strengths and built our friendship, and alleviated some of those stress points for each of us.

**In a different season, that same friend and I each came to each others house every other week and put our babies down for naps and let our toddlers watch a show while we tackled whatever cleaning project another friend needed. Also, whoever hosted made a big crockpot of meat the morning of and sent the helper home with an entree.

**I've coordinated freezer meal trades throughout the years where we make 4-8 freezer meals and then trade with friends. It's VERY low-key and not "flashy" of IG worthy but efficient and fun to get meals I didn't prep.

**A babysitters club where moms and I had one morning a week where we dropped off our kids at someone's home and two moms were "on" and two moms were "off."

**This year, a group of friends and I are hosting "nest parties" for each other where we come over in our birthday months (and hopefully half birthday months) and tackle projects that we need help with (freezer prep, deep cleaning a trouble zone, etc.)

I'll re-iterate that I think paying for help can absolutely be a worthy use of funds and absolutely essential in some seasons!!!

But there's also tremendous opportunity to cultivate community and share my life with someone, and enter someone else's life too if we're willing to get creative and pay with time and energy instead of money. All of those memories listed above built my relationships in deeply beautiful ways and just made life more fun.
