Power Nap #14
Funny and thought-provoking media from Kate and her team for a quick, refreshing pick-me-up.
Things We Found Interesting
1. A New Jersey Mystery: Who Dumped the Pasta? “We should send the perpetrators to the state penne tentiary.” Update: Looks like they figured it out.2. Two stories of interesting childhoods from the Browser: First, an account of an adventurous childhood that was not nearly as exciting as it seemed. The author's family set out on what was meant to be a three-year circumnavigation by sail when she was seven. Nine years later, they were still at sea. . . Second, three small children are abandoned at a Barcelona railway station in 1984. They lived in Paris; their parents had money, fast cars and guns. Were their parents gangsters? Why the abandonment? They begin looking for answers.
This picture reminded me of how so many plots appear different but are actually super similar. For example, did you know the Lion King follows the same plot as Hamlet? I guess John Gardner was right: “There are only two kinds of stories: A man goes on a journey, or a stranger comes to town.” h/t to Six at Six for the picture, which triggered the thought.

Books That Were OK
Nate listened to these books on Libby. Of the group, he thought Age of Vice was best (warning some very graphic scenes) (Blurbs taken from Amazon):
– The House in the Pines by Ana Reyes. Maya was a high school senior when her best friend, Aubrey, mysteriously dropped dead in front of the enigmatic man named Frank whom they’d been spending time with all summer. Seven years later, her past comes rushing back when she comes across a recent YouTube video in which a young woman suddenly keels over and dies in a diner while sitting across from none other than Frank. How's he doing it?
– The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake. Book one of a trilogy. Once every ten years, six exceptional magicians are recruited for the secret Alexandrian Society, tasked with protecting the Library of Alexandria. Entrance into the Society promises all they ever dreamed of, and more, but of the six, only five will go on, and in order to do so a great sacrifice must be made.
– Age of Vice by Deepti Kapoor. Deftly shifting through time and perspective in contemporary India, Age of Vice is an epic, action-packed story propelled by the seductive wealth, startling corruption, and bloodthirsty violence of the Wadia family—loved by some, loathed by others, feared by all.
