Non fiction recommendation: America and Iran by John Ghazvinian. Always good to brush up on history & learn from a source besides media outlets! 🌍 My husband read this, enjoyed it, and now my middle schooler is going through it.
A note to Nate about Of Mice and Men…the short length is likely why you didn’t get into it like East of Eden. However, I challenge you to read it again when your kids are older and reading it in school (I taught it as an 8th grade teacher for 7 years) and really examine the ideas of loneliness and justice. Once you start looking for loneliness, it appears in every character! My class put on an extensive mock trial at the end (George on trial…) and we had character witnesses, a jury of ‘locals’ and even a whole media team reporting on the incident! So yes, it is a shorter Steinbeck, but oh so rich once you dig deeply into it.
Random but on June 16th I screenshotted you in a navy dress with a collar and it was so cute. Can you link it? Idk how else to ask about it 😆 but it’s been on my to-do list lol. (Life of a mom of 4)
Nate—you might want to try “God is an Englishman” by Bijan Omrani, if you liked Dominion. Omrani specifically calls out Holland as inspiration, but this book is shorter and focused on England. I talked about it last month on my podcast (Crack the Book) but havent gotten a post up about it yet. Best of luck with the start of the school year. I swear I always go into a little depression every August.
