Power Nap #17
Funny and thought-provoking media from Kate and her team for a quick, refreshing pick-me-up.
Things We Found Interesting
The good news: "Egg"flation is no more. Egg prices are plunging.
The bad news: Olive oil prices hit a 26-year high due to a drought in the Mediterranean.
Apparently, lots of young Americans are developing a tick where they adopt a British accent when nervous. This quote made me laugh: “I said, ‘It’s affecting me mental health, innit?’” “And my boss was like, ‘Why did you say it like that?’" My theory: They've been conditioned that way due to an overload of Harry Potter marathon weekends on cable.
h/t to Abnormal Returns for the food price coverage.
A Big Decade for Everleigh (Everly?)
In the last decade, Everleigh has seen the largest gain among girl baby names. The second largest? You guessed it: Everly. Alexa and Alexis, meanwhile, have fallen off a cliff.
The Kid's Zone is a special Summer installment for The Power Nap. We hope this helps parents survive the dog days of summer with a full house! These were all submitted to Kate on Instagram by her followers. If you have suggestions, email them to us.
Things From The Gram
1. Kate shared her favorite sounds of the summer which lends to the timely sale of The Home Reset going on all month.
2. Kate shared her top 2 tips for cutting chicken.
3. Kate got on a soapbox about the hyperorganization trend and it resonated with so many of you too!
Things We Devoured
Nate enjoyed this podcast by Morgan Housel (approx. 25 mins). He uses the story of a boat race where a London newspaper offered £5,000 to whoever could sail solo nonstop around the world the fastest. He uses two men, Donald Crowhurst and Bernard Moitessier, as examples of how the quality of your life is shaped by whom you want to impress. If you'd rather read than listen, it looks Housel also wrote about this last year. Nate's favorite quote from the podcast came from Bob Marley: “Some people are so poor all they have is money.”
In Case You Missed It
1. Kate found biker shorts she actually likes. After a bad experience with this pair from lululemon, she found these on Amazon and loves them. This pair is the same but with a pocket!
2. Kate did an Amazon Live and shared 20 kitchen items in 20 minutes. Everything she mentioned is linked.
3. Kate did The Home Reset in her bathroom last week and reminded us why these are the best washcloths money can buy.
4. Kate still loves this high neck tank top from last year.
