Things we found interesting
1. On the rise of “forest bathing,” or doctors prescribing time outdoors to improve health. “The benefits of spending time in nature are as established as a centuries-old oak trunk, and include reduced stress and improved sleep, happiness, attention, memory and creativity. In one 2015 study, researchers in Canada found that adding 10 more trees to a city block improved perceived health and well-being as much as increasing people’s income by $10,000 or making them seven years younger.” h/t to Abnormal Returns
2. Maybe you heard about the discovery of a potential room temperature super conductor, which, if true, would have been perhaps the greatest scientific discovery of the past 100 years. It looks like it wasn't true, but if you, like me, had no idea why a room temperature super conductor was important, this video does a nice job succinctly explaining.
3. Kate learned this week where the expression “keeping up with the Joneses” originated. Turns out, it comes from a 1913 comic strip:"Know how to leave things alone, for if knowing how to refuse is one of life's great lessons, an even greater one is knowing how to say no to yourself, to important people, and in business. There are non-essential activities, moths of precious time, and it's worse to take an interest in irrelevant things than to do nothing at all." - Baltasar Gracian
The Kid's Zone is a special Summer installment for The Power Nap. We hope this helps parents survive the dog days of summer with a full house! These were all submitted to Kate on Instagram by her followers. If you have suggestions, email them to us.
