Power Nap #3
Funny and thought-provoking media from Kate and her team for a quick, refreshing pick-me-up.
Things We Found Interesting
A history of the honeycrisp apple. Two things we loved: 1. Apple names used to be way cooler (the “streaked pippen,” c'mon); 2. Every single McIntosh apple you've eaten is an exact clone from the original tree discovered in 1811 (in other words, they don't use seeds, they clone the original tree by grafting). Woah! (4 min watch) h/t to Painters Ice Cream for sharing.
A middle-age software developer worth nine figures says he spends around $2 million each year to bio-hack his body into regaining its youth. Among other crazy, things, he “wakes every morning at 5 am, takes two dozen supplements, works out for an hour, drinks green juice laced with creatine and collagen peptides, and brushes and flosses his teeth while rinsing with tea-tree oil and antioxidant gel. Also, ”while sleeping, Johnson is hooked up to a machine that counts the number of nighttime erections.”
Inflation? How about “egg”-flation? Per ChartR, “a dozen large Grade A eggs will now typically set you back over $4, more than double the $1.90 average from last Jan.” Some say the massive increases in prices was caused by a record-breaking avian flu outbreak, while others say “Big Egg” is colluding to fix prices.
This week, Nate read a transcript of an interview with Ted Weschler, who works directly under Warren Buffett. In it, Weschler explains how he got the job, which involved him winning an auction for a lunch with Buffett (whom he had never met). Weschler called Buffett to schedule the lunch he'd won. Buffett responded: "Well, I could do tomorrow night, I could do Wednesday, I could do Thursday." Mind you, Buffett was one of the richest people in the world. And when called on a Monday – he has nothing on his calendar for the rest of the week! It reminded me of these two quotes:
"Your calendar is a better measure of success than your bank account." - James Clear
"The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything." - Warren Buffett

Kate just checked out the audiobook Taste: My Life Through Food by Stanley Tucci. She has heard good things, and it's read by Stanley!
We continued trying to watch the Oscar-nominees, and this week's was “The Banshees of Inisherin.” We laughed a few times for sure, but on the whole we were not fans. It ended up being just sort of weird and sad. 1/5 stars.
