Things We Found Interesting
Billions of cicadas will emerge in this US this summer in a rare “double-brood” event. The last time they emerged in the same year, it was 1803 and Thomas Jefferson was President. The article has a map, but they will mostly hit parts of the Midwest and Southeast.
A “prop bet” is a bet made regarding the occurrence or non-occurrence during a game not directly affecting the game's final outcome. Some examples: will the opening coin toss be heads or tails, what color Gatorade will the winning team dump on the coach's head, how long will the national anthem be. As you may guess, these are very common during the Super Bowl. We enjoyed this article about someone who, during the 2021 Super Bowl, bet $50,000 that there “would be a streaker.” The bet paid him $374,000 if it hit. He then bought tickets to the Super Bowl (est. cost $10k), then waited until there was five minutes left in the game. There had been no streaker. So we did he do? You guessed it. One night in jail for $374k and he got to watch almost the entire Super Bowl. Genius. (it seems like the guy may have lied about making the bet, but we didn't want to let that ruin a good story.)
The NTK Team is hosting the Second Annual NTK Bracket Challenge!

Stay tuned for the Take Them A Meal Manual crowdsourced document the NTK team is putting together. In the meantime, the most frequently submitted recipe was Cookie and Kate's Black Bean Sweet Potato Enchiladas. Kate made them last week and paired it with Ambitious Kitchen's Lime Crema.
