Power Nap #6
Funny and thought-provoking media from Kate and her team for a quick, refreshing pick-me-up.
Things We Found Interesting
1. Can you guess the most popular recipe in the New York Times cooking data base?
2. How did Rihanna generate most of her wealth? Hint: It wasn't her music.
3. A car runs into a 7/11 roughly once per day.
4. Oscars: The Oscars are Sunday night at 8:00 pm eastern! Can you name the actor/actress with the most Oscars? Answer in this chart (Nate: “I'm ashamed to say I've never seen one of her movies”):
Things From The Gram
Kate wrote about the nostalgia of old kitchens in an ode to her late grandparents.
Nate saw this Big Bear Bald Eagle Live Nest. When he watched there was snow on the ground and the eagle was in the nest. H/t to Napper Jenna Flynn.
Kate shared how she creates the perfect iced tea at home.
Last week was Dr. Seuss Week. Kate dreads this every year and made a video showing just how deep the misery goes.
Kate shared why she always cooks extra bacon.
Kate explained why she always keeps stationary in her car.
Garlic bread: why you need to keep a stash in your freezer.
Things We Devoured
Napper Anita from Chicago recommended The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast and Jess loved the episode on the High Cost of Over-Parenting. Psychologist Madeline Levine shares a damaging theme she's seen in many clients - anxious kids who are the product of anxious helicopter parents. She shares that kids are in process and when we try to over-mold that process it stunts their adaptability in the real world. If you are a parent this is well worth the 48 minute listen.
Kate read Little Fires Everywhere (she is late to the party; it's already been made into a TV show). The ending wasn't what she was expecting (actually it left her a bit angry!) but it kept her thinking about the deeper questions the book proposes on motherhood. What does it mean to be a mother? Who gets the final say over the life of a child? Once she started reading, she couldn't put it down.
The relationship between success and fun…
Mountaineer Alex Lowe on how to be the best:
"The best climber in the world is the one who's having the most fun." h/t to James Clear's newsletter
“In the world of business, the people who are most successful are those who are doing what they love.” - Warren Buffett
“Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun. I mean, if you were having fun, you would've caught that ball.” - The Sandlot
Using AI, every US President as a Pixar character. The George “Dubya” Bush is awesome. h/t to Simplefamilyfaith
In Case You Missed It
If you have a dog and aren't walking them with this harness, get it now and thank me later. Kate is finally enjoying taking Annie on walks after 9 years.
In the same theme of going on walks, if you have a stroller you need this caddy. It holds alllll the things. There's also one for a double stroller.
