Things We Found Interesting
Some of you have asked how you can, like Nate, become a “citizen scientist” for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Here is a link to the volunteer page. Nate is tracking rain, snow, and hail for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS). It's really easy to get approved. Getting accurate weather data is actually super important for things like farming, boating, insurance, and other other industries. It's pretty cool that thousands of people volunteer to help get accurate data for our country. If you want to purchase the CoCoRaHS official rain gauge, you can do that here. (we don't make any money if you buy it.) If any of you are involved in CoCoRaHS, or anything else cool like this, reach out to Nate.
Speaking of cool things, has any one heard of Geoguessr? You are shown a photo from Google Earth and need to identify where in the world you are. Here is the best person in the world doing it blind-folding with a friend describing the photos. “We have a black car. We have a black sticker on a concrete poll." “Uh, Malaysia” I mean guys. This is incredible. Here he is doing it looking at the pictures for like a half a second. I could watch these all day.
Kate loves Aperol Spritz – the Italian-born apéritif cocktail that’s taken over bars, restaurants, and liquor cabinets the world over. Nate not so much. This article shares a bit about the drink's history and how its owner (Campari Group) has been making a global marketing push (that seems to be working.)
